Google announced the Pixel Watch 5 on Aug. 12 [3], featuring a new suite of on-device AI tools called Gemini Intelligence.
The integration of generative AI into Wear OS represents a shift toward proactive health monitoring and hands-free interaction on the wrist. By processing data locally, the device aims to provide faster responses and more private health tracking.
Gemini Intelligence includes several new capabilities, such as real-time translation and gesture control. Priya Narayanan, VP of Product Management at Google, said the AI enables health insights and seamless gesture control. Victoria Song of The Verge said that while gesture control has existed on other smartwatches, it is a welcome addition to the Pixel lineup.
A significant addition to the device is an AI-driven insulin-resistance trend detector. This feature uses sensor data to provide users with early warnings regarding their metabolic health. This marks a move toward more specialized medical screening within consumer wearables.
The Pixel Watch 5 will be available for purchase starting Aug. 20 [2]. The device is priced at $399 [1] and will be sold worldwide through the Google Store and various retail partners.
While some early reports suggested Gemini Intelligence was limited to the Pixel 11 phone series, Google confirmed the AI suite is also integrated into the Pixel Watch 5 to improve the overall user experience.

The inclusion of an insulin-resistance trend detector signals Google's intention to move the Pixel Watch from a general fitness tracker to a diagnostic health tool.
