Andhra Pradesh Minister Nara Lokesh said the state is becoming a leader in artificial intelligence by fulfilling Prime Minister Narendra Modi's development vision.

This alignment between state and central government policies is intended to attract massive foreign investment and establish the region as a primary center for technological innovation. By synchronizing local governance with national goals, the state aims to accelerate industrial growth and energy transition.

Speaking at the Republic Summit 2026, Lokesh, who serves as the Minister for Human Resource Development, Information Technology, and Electronics, said central government policies play a role in the state's progress. "Andhra Pradesh is emerging as a leader in AI, thanks to the visionary policies of the central government," Lokesh said [1].

The minister said the objective is to transform the state into a global hub for both investment and innovation [2]. This strategy includes diversifying the economy through high-tech sectors and sustainable infrastructure.

Energy production is a central pillar of this expansion. Lokesh said the state is targeting a Rs 10 lakh crore investment in clean energy over the coming years [3]. This push for green energy is designed to position Andhra Pradesh as a reliable partner for international clean-energy firms.

To further these goals, Lokesh traveled to Russia from June 2 to June 7, 2026, to attract new investments to the state [4]. The visit focused on securing partnerships that align with the state's broader industrial ambitions.

Lokesh said the rapid development currently seen in the state serves as a reward for adhering to the central government's agenda. He said this cooperation facilitates a more streamlined path toward achieving the state's economic targets.

"Andhra Pradesh is emerging as a leader in AI, thanks to the visionary policies of the central government,"

The strategy employed by Andhra Pradesh demonstrates a shift toward 'cooperative federalism,' where state governments explicitly align their economic policies with the central government's priorities to secure funding and political support. By focusing on AI and clean energy—two pillars of India's national strategy—Andhra Pradesh is attempting to leverage central political capital to attract high-value foreign direct investment and transition its economy toward sustainable technology.
